The SSP business area (and in particular the EVP WP2 SPD project) requires a rapid-prototyping platform which includes the basic ATC Controller tools usually available on the ESCAPE platform, and which will enable experiments to be performed in orer to evaluate the HMI aspects and component interaction of new concepts. There have been 4 phases of development of the SPD1 software which are described below.
Build 1 introduced the following ECHOES compliant tools:
- MTCD
- MONA
- LINK 2000 CPDLC
- SNET
- SYSCO

Build 2 introduced the following additional tools:
- 2D Trajectory addition for the Assumed and Advanced ATC controllers.
- Indication in the label that an aircraft's trajectory is being edited.
- Trajectory Coordination between adjacent CWPs.
- Uplinking of the SYSTEM route for an aircraft using Datalink.
- Prepared Clearances (PACs) to remind the ATC controller to give appropriate aircraft orders.

Build 3 and 4 introduced the following additional tools:
- ASAS (Airborne Separation Assurance System) HMI to demonstrate the ATC Controller's actions when setting up ASAS clearances for the PLANNER and TACTICAL CWPs.
- Monitoring of pilot-entered speed, heading, height-rate and CFL clearances (using ADS-B downlinked data) with conformance warnings displayed in the associated aircraft label.
- Addition of the track surveillance source (RADAR, ADSB, RADAR+ADSB), with aircraft symbol shape denoting the current source.
- Downlink (via ADS-B) of the next 3 Trajectory Change Points from the aircraft to show the 4D aircraft intention, displayable in the CWP position as an FMS Flight Leg.
- Display of Top of Descent points on the Flight Leg
